Description
This was our final in-class assignment in our life-drawing class. We spent two days drawing the model. I thought this one turned out rather well. I'm kind of proud of this. Tell me what you think.

Ah! The old "Air Chair" pose!
The toning and contrasts work very well together to create a good, strong dimensional look and feel. The shadow breaks and the way they are accented with highlight really pop the figure off the page, as too the passages of core shade. The cores could be a little stronger and more suggestive of the hidden anatomy - bones, muscle, sinew.
The detail of the feet and hands pushes this in the right direction.
The careful attention to edges might be a defining element. The broken outlines are very well considered.
The face looks overdone, perhaps an attempt at detailing too fine for the size of the instrument. This is where one has to decide between painterly impressionism with big, nuanced strokes of a hunk of charcoal, or fine draftsmanship with the picky point of a well sharpened charcoal pencil. Hehe.
